Cooling Is Weak or Uneven Between Compartments

This is the single most common Fisher & Paykel call we take. The fridge runs, the light works, but one section sits warmer than it should.

Because ActiveSmart uses variable speed fans and controlled airflow to move cold air between compartments, uneven cooling often points to an airflow or control fault rather than a dead compressor. We check:

• Evaporator and condenser fan motors, including variable speed operation
• Air damper and duct restrictions between compartments
• Temperature sensors reporting incorrect readings to the control board
• Condenser coil condition and airflow to the compressor bay
• Refrigerant charge and compressor performance

Quad Door and multi-zone models add complexity here, because each zone is controlled separately. A fault in one zone does not always mean the whole system is failing.

Ice Build-Up in the Freezer or Around the Drawer

Frost accumulating on the back wall, on freezer baskets, or around the seal of a bottom freezer drawer usually traces back to the defrost circuit or to a seal that is no longer closing cleanly.

We test the defrost heater, the defrost sensor and the control logic driving the cycle, and we inspect drawer runners and gaskets. On bottom mount and French door models, a drawer that has dropped slightly on its runners can leave a gap you cannot see but that lets warm humid air in continuously.

Water Pooling Inside or Under the Fridge

Water in the crisper base or on the floor is normally a blocked defrost drain. Meltwater from the defrost cycle should run out to the evaporation tray above the compressor, and when the drain line blocks, it backs up.

On ice and water models we also check the inlet solenoid, the filter housing, and the water line connections, since a slow seep at a fitting can look identical to a drainage fault from the outside.

Control Panel Not Responding or Alarm Sounding

Fisher & Paykel models use touch control interfaces, and some display fault indications or sound an alarm when a sensor reading falls outside its expected range.

An alarm on its own is not always a serious fault. It can be triggered by a door left ajar or a load of warm shopping. If it persists once the fridge has had time to recover, it usually indicates a sensor, wiring or control board issue that needs testing.

We diagnose these by testing the actual components against their expected values. We do not guess at a board replacement, because control boards are among the more expensive parts on these appliances and are often not the real fault.

Fan Noise, Rattles or Constant Running

A change in the sound a Fisher & Paykel makes is worth acting on. Fan motor bearings wear, fan blades can catch on ice build-up, and a compressor that never cycles off is telling you it cannot reach its target temperature.

Humidity Drawers Not Performing

Full width humidity controlled produce drawers are a signature Fisher & Paykel feature, and when produce starts wilting or sweating, the cause is usually a drawer seal, a humidity control slider, or an airflow issue feeding that compartment.

Integrated and Column Installation Faults

Integrated units are built into cabinetry, which means ventilation clearances matter enormously. A large share of the Integrated faults we attend come down to restricted airflow around the appliance rather than a component failure. These jobs need a technician comfortable removing and refitting joinery panels correctly.
